Description

Vadim Garine’s is a large-format work from 2023 showing the animal clinging to a branch. Against a cellulose background suggesting luxuriant vegetation, the chameleon’s body is created by painstakingly cutting a multitude of pieces of cardboard, the undulations of which can be seen. The entire body is covered in gold leaf, enhanced with candy ink that adds a subtle depth to the subject’s lively appearance.

The delicate composition is based on the use of the golden ratio, characteristic of the artist’s work.

Here, Vadim Garine returns to his training as an iconographer, presenting a subject in majesty and developing a rich dialogue between abstract and figurative representation. He explores and plays with the effects of plane and volume.
