Vadim Garine

Vadim Garine is originally from the Tian-Chan, the foothills of the Himalayas on the border between China and Kazakhstan.

His encounter with Archimandrite Zenon, an internationally renowned iconographer monk, was crucial in his artistic life. He acquired from him knowledge of various ancient techniques, including tempera, encaustic, and gilding.

In 1996, Vadim Garine moved to France. His time at the school of art restoration allowed him to deepen his knowledge of traditional techniques, and he opened his own creation and restoration studio.

From 1999 to 2005, while restoring the gilding of the Cathedral of Chambéry, Vadim received his first icon commission (4m high) for the Church of Colombier Sonnieux, then for the church in Megève. He began painting 700m² of frescoes in the church of the St. Michel du Var Monastery (which he completed in 2017), and also in the Transfiguration Chapel of Entrecasteaux (Var). He teaches at the Institute of Philocalia.

He exhibits personal and contemporary works in galleries, using materials such as wood, plant fibers, painting, cardboard, gilding, and aluminum.
