Antonin Anzil was born in Blois in 1988. He lives and works in Paris.
After graduating from the École Européenne Supérieure de l’Image de Poitiers in 2010, and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 2012, he worked at Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s design studio until 2017. Finesse and delicacy characterize his artistic work, and the paper medium seems incompatible with the idea we have of engraving or sculpture; and yet. The artist painstakingly creates relief, shapes and motifs, multiplying dots and creating a world of paper.
On the bright white surface of paper, inner landscapes, invented maps and secret motifs develop. It’s up to you to build your own personal images, to find your bearings between the lines. The works are both poetic and tangible, and you’d almost like to caress the delicate lacework with your fingertips. Some seem to be influenced by the decorative arts, and are close to textiles, reminiscent of drapery or tapestry motifs. Still others are reminiscent of tranquil landscapes, aerial views of territories… just let yourself dream the journey.
