Ulysse Bookends, 2024
Sophie Lafont’s pink onyx Ulysse bookends are like a small sculpture in your bookcase. The object is based on a number of contradictions, featuring both finely polished, extremely shiny sides that reveal the veining characteristic of this stone, and sides sculpted in a rocaille style that imitates the appearance of the rough stone. At once monolithic and extremely soft, intensified by the pale colour of the onyx and the cottony treatment of the material, the bookends have an elusive shape and can be installed in a multitude of ways.
Each pair is unique, hand-crafted from sections of stone selected by Sophie Lafont for their exceptional qualities.
